Job Description

The Millwork and Sign Shop Manager provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all shop and field activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role directs goal-setting, planning, and performance across multiple teams, aligning resources to meet cross-departmental project demands through effective portfolio and project management.

  • Leadership & direction: Sets goals, priorities, and operating standards for Millwork and Sign Shop; aligns managers and crews to plan.
  • Project portfolio management: Converts cross-department demand into an executable portfolio, planning and tracking work in Project Management software and ensuring owners, dependencies, and timelines are clear.
  • Drawings & scope validation: Receives and reviews shop drawings/blueprints; confirms scope, dimensions, materials, methods, and site conditions. Directs revisions/approvals before release to fabrication or field.
  • Estimating & pricing: Develops and/or approves thorough estimates (labor, materials, equipment, vendor/subcontract, logistics) with clear assumptions and risks; aligns budgets with schedule and quality targets.
  • Phase planning & readiness: Plans all phases—pre-con, procurement, fabrication, finishing, installation, and close-out—sequencing long-lead items, capacity, and access so projects run to plan without emergency expedites; track actuals vs. estimate and correct variances early.
  • Schedule & throughput: Maintains the master schedule and WIP in Project Management software; track milestones, remove blockers, and deliver on time.
  • Safety & compliance: Champions safe practices, training, and audits for shop and field work; ensures equipment readiness and required documentation.
  • Quality & workmanship: Defines and enforces standards for fabrication, finishing, and installation; prevent rework through targeted reviews.
  • Standards & inspections: Uses routine walk-throughs, checklists, and quality standards to identify gaps, confirms readiness, and directs work that elevates asset condition and reliability.
  • People development: Coaches shop managers; develops craft skills and bench strength; sets expectations and provides feedback/recognition.
  • Budget & cost control: Plans labor/material mix, reviews estimates/quotes, monitors cost-to-complete and drives efficiency without compromising quality.
  •  Materials & vendor readiness: Oversees sourcing, lead times, and inventory posture; maintains vendor performance and readiness of critical equipment.
  • Cross-functional coordination: Partners with resort stakeholders and multiple departments to align scope, site access, and timelines; communicates changes and impacts.
  • Standards & documentation: Ensures drawings/specs/templates and shop documents are current and controlled; requires clean closeouts and lessons learned.
  • Operational reporting: Publishes a steady cadence of status updates on schedule, risks, capacity, and quality/safety metrics, using HotSOS to monitor labor and productivity and to inform capacity/utilization reporting.
  • Continuous improvement: Identifies and pilots process improvements in layout, methods, changeover, and waste; scale what works and measure results.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 8+ years in millwork/cabinetry, signage or closely related fabrication/installation operations
  • 5+ years leading managers and multi-disciplinary shop/field teams
  • Proven oversight of a project portfolio serving multiple departments and resort stakeholders, with on-time delivery across concurrent projects/service work.
  • Demonstrated ownership of safety programs and quality standards for shop and field installs, with measurable improvements (e.g., incident reduction, rework down, schedule hit rate up).
  • Track record managing labor and productivity reporting through a CMMS (e.g., HotSOS) and using those metrics to make capacity/utilization decisions.
  • Hands-on experience running portfolio schedules and WIP in a project tool (e.g., Asana) to plan work, assign owners, and drive completion.
  • Experience with budgeting and cost control: labor/material planning, quotes/estimates, cost-to-complete, and variance management.
  • Direct involvement in materials and vendor readiness (lead times, inventory posture, vendor performance) that protects schedules.
  • Successful stakeholder management across multiple departments; clear communication up, down, and across the organization.

Education & Certifications:

  • High School diploma required. 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Project Management PMP or CAPM and/or other certifications preferred. 
  • Valid driver’s license issued by the state of employment is required.

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication; collaborates effectively with resort stakeholders and cross-department teams.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead managers and craft teams, align priorities, and build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong planning and prioritization; manages concurrent project portfolios and shifting demands.
  • Skilled in capacity planning and schedule control; anticipates dependencies, site access, and resource constraints.
  • Technology-savvy; proficient with Microsoft 365 (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams) and SharePoint, and experienced with project-management software such as Asana; quick to learn new systems and tools.
  • Experienced using CMMS platforms (e.g., HotSOS) to track labor and productivity and translate metrics into capacity/utilization actions.
  • Solid cost awareness, including labor/material drivers, basic estimating, and cost-to-complete tracking.
  • Knowledge of materials, finishes, lead times, and vendor coordination practices that protect schedules.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; interprets data and provides clear, actionable insights.
  • Proven ability to lead change and drive results in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Travel Requirements: 

  • This role requires up to 20% travel to resort locations, with some travel potentially to out of state locations.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • Leads managers of specialty trade departments (e.g., millwork and sign), providing coaching and mentoring, setting clear goals and feedback rhythms, managing performance, and driving succession planning, training, and recognition.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings/specifications, safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals to perform work safely, accurately, and in compliance with standards. Ability to write clear emails, reports, schedules, and presentations; document instructions and status updates; and convey safety-critical or time-sensitive information to managers, Team Members, vendors, and resort partners. Able to present and explain plans, priorities, and changes to mixed technical/non-technical audiences and de-escalate or resolve issues professionally. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred (not required).
