Job Description

The Director of Safety & Security is responsible for the strategic leadership and daily management of all safety and security functions across the organization. This role oversees a team of security professionals, ensuring the safety of team members, guests, visitors, and company assets. The Director develops and enforces security protocols, manages emergency response procedures, conducts risk assessments, and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, fire codes, and industry standards.

This position requires strong operational leadership, the ability to respond effectively to critical incidents, and collaboration with internal departments and external agencies such as law enforcement and emergency services. The Director also oversees investigations, loss prevention efforts, security technology systems, budget management, training programs, and maintains a culture of safety, professionalism, and service excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the recruitment, screening, training, scheduling, and performance management of all Security & Safety personnel.
  • Develop and implement daily operational procedures and field assignments for the security team, ensuring compliance with company policies and state regulations.
  • Conduct and manage routine safety and security inspections, audits, and a formalized inspection program to ensure property-wide compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Lead internal investigations related to criminal, civil, or workplace incidents; coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
  • Manage and enforce all government-mandated safety programs, including OSHA compliance, hazardous communication, and bloodborne pathogen training.
  • Serve as liaison to OSHA and local/state safety agencies; act on behalf of the Regional Director of Security as assigned.
  • Coordinate and deliver employee training on health, safety, emergency procedures, and security protocols in partnership with Corporate Risk Management.
  • Chair the Occupational Safety and Health Committee; retain meeting documentation and ensure timely distribution of agendas, minutes, and action reports.
  • Maintain departmental records, equipment inventory, and security systems including electronic locks, key control, surveillance, and the Tour Guard system.
  • Respond to and assume control of all critical incidents, including alarms, emergencies, and fire/burglar events; be on-call 24/7.
  • Oversee safety and loss prevention programs, including damage/loss reporting, inventory control, and property surveillance (vehicle and foot patrol).
  • Administer progressive discipline, enforce departmental accountability, and ensure all officers meet licensing and legal requirements.
  • Support interdepartmental safety initiatives and oversee departmental participation in operational and executive meetings.
  • Supervise the Lost & Found process and manage related guest interactions with a focus on service and resolution.
  • Maintain the departmental budget, control expenses, and ensure resource availability for daily operations and emergency preparedness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience and 5+ years of experience in security, safety, or risk management, preferably in a hotel, resort, or hospitality environment.
  • Proven experience managing safety programs, emergency response, investigations, and regulatory compliance (OSHA, local/state safety laws).
  • Experience working with law enforcement, fire services, emergency services, and risk management partners.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Hospitality Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA, First Aid/CPR, Certified Protection Professional) are a plus.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and drug & alcohol screening.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and night shifts.
  • Must be able to work any shift (day or night), in all weather conditions, and be on call 24/7.

  • Cybersecurity awareness and familiarity with modern security technologies

Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate the activities of the Assistant Director, Managers, and six or more line employees, as applicable.
  • Carry out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Physical Demands

  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
