Picture your dream vacation, and you might picture yourself relaxing in a beautiful hotel room in a scenic resort, but you might not think about what goes on in the behind-the-scenes operations to keep everything ticking over smoothly.

At Westgate Resorts, for example, there’s a dedicated security team that works tirelessly around the clock to ensure that every guest experiences a safe stay. Today, we’ll be shining a spotlight on the vital role that hotel security jobs play in our day-to-day operations so you can enhance your understanding of these roles before applying.

The Importance of Hotel Security Careers

Safety and security within hospitality is paramount.

Guests are looking for a home away from home where they can unwind while feeling safe and secure. The industry has to keep on top of this so that guest trust can be maintained.

At Westgate Resorts, we know that our guests don’t just choose us for our beautiful locations, choice of restaurants, or range of amenities; we know they choose to stay with us for peace of mind too, and that’s where our hotel security careers come in.

Our Range of Hotel Security Jobs

From Las Vegas to Kissimmee, we need skilled professionals to fill our variety of security jobs. Our security roles encompass a range of roles and responsibilities, all designed to protect our guests, staff, and their property.

If you’re curious about the range of roles on offer in this department, here’s a glimpse of what you can expect when you apply:

  • Security Officer - Our Officers provide initial responses to emergency services, manage entry and exit control points, conduct safety inspections, and much more.
  • Event Security Officer - These roles will see professionals patrol and assist in assigned areas, along with observing all activity, responding to calls during concert events, special events, and other functions on our property.
  • Security Supervisor - Our Security Supervisors direct and coordinate the activities of our Security Officers while working under either the Director of Security or the General Manager. They conduct safety inspections and solve practical problems in various situations, including emergencies.
  • Security Assistant Manager - Assistant Managers in the security department monitor the activity of all shift personnel to ensure all duties are completed as assigned. They respond, if necessary, to make decisions on items of major importance, including emergencies.
  • Bike Patrol Officer - These security professionals at Westgate routinely patrol outside areas while providing guest assistance. They also maintain alertness for anything suspicious within our resorts.

As you can see from the above role breakdowns, hotel security jobs play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of guests and staff. It’s worth noting that the above roles are just a handful of what we have available in our security department.

FAQs

Are Security Jobs Easy to Get?

The short answer is it depends.

Entry-level security roles could be relatively easy to obtain, albeit more competitive to interview for. Our top tip is to focus on promoting your transferable and workplace skills to your interviewer to maximize your chances of standing out.

If the security role you’ve applied for is in the hospitality industry, you can come prepared to your interview with knowledge of emerging hospitality tech trends.

At Westgate, a lot of our security role requirements relate to lifting heavy loads and personal fitness. We also look for strong written and verbal communication skills.

Are Security Jobs in Demand?

Security guard jobs are generally in demand across the US. It’s no different here at Westgate Resorts, where we always need these professionals to protect our guests and staff.

Interestingly, employment of security guards has been projected to grow 2% from 2023 to 2033. Even though this is slower than average, about 162,400 openings for security guards are projected each year, which still shows that demand is there.
